Step Inventory Guide
point of the 4th step inventory is to take a " fearless moral
inventory of ourselves." Put another way it is an opportunity
to take an honest look at yourself and decide what you want to
keep (attributes and virtues) and what you want to get
rid of (addiction). In AA they use the term "character
defects," but this is old fashioned. Addiction is a disorder
not a defect.
step is necessary if you want to change. Change is the
most important element in recovery. You cannot change what you
cannot accept responsibility for and to do this you must (1) identify
your shortcomings, (2) acknowledge them, and (3) understand them.
Therefore, the more details you put on your inventory the better.
